I was hold-ing my young-est a-sleep in my arms
In front of a man-ger scene out-side our church.
My three-year old girl cud-dled close to keep warm,
Watch-ing in won-der, not say-ing a word.
And some-how my prob-lems seemed dis-tant and small.
My thoughts turned a-way from my dail-y con-cerns
To the Child of God a-sleep in a stall.
And I thought of God's child-ren all o-ver the world.
For Child-ren of God are born ev'-ry day.
Right here at home and far, far a-way.

That Child-ren of God are born ev'-ry day.
The church bells were ca-ro-ling "O, Hol-y Night"
As we climbed in our car to get out of the cold.
Stars shone like cry-stal all o-ver the sky,
Guid-ing our way to the warmth of our home.
And watch-ing the child-ren so snug in their beds,
I felt a strange sad-ness come o-ver my heart.
I thought of the home-less, cold and un-fed.
Child-ren of God some-where out in the dark.

Why does each Christ-mas touch eve-ry one so?
What do we see in the Child ly-ing there?
